Hilario wants Adelaida to accompany him to Cantarrana to convince Victoria to return to the capital and stop sabotaging the hacienda, as she is only putting herself in danger; the lady agrees to accompany him because it is her daughter. Victoria feels sorry for Federico when he, holding back tears, admits that it was him who murdered his father. Nicolás arrives at the hacienda with Victoria in a fever and fainting; the young man explains to Adelaida and Fernanda that he found her alone in the middle of the road and has already ordered several farmhands to go in search of Federico; Mrs. Alcoy, who does not approve that the girl has been taken to what is now her house, cannot help but feel ashamed when Adelaida reproaches her for her lack of humanity.
